Expectations

Students are expected to come to class prepared to participate with a respectful attitude, completed assignments, and necessary materials. These three elements will allow us to begin learning immediately and create a productive, enjoyable environment for all. I believe these three elements are so instrumental to the learning environment, that 25% of each student's grade will be determined be their daily conduct.

Each student will begin the day with three (3) points, one for each of the following characteristics:
-
demonstrating respectful attitude to peers and teacher
-
coming to class with required materials and supplies
-
participating in class discussion and activities

If a student does not demonstrate one of these characteristics, they will lose a point for the day. Examples of actions that may result in the loss of a point include, a student needing to go their locker to get a pencil or their textbook; not sharing ideas in small group discussions; being off task and failing to complete classroom activities; or distracting classmates from completing work. Please do not worry if you are a quiet student. We do not all participate in the same way. Participation to me means active engagement in learning. Conduct grades will be recorded weekly.

If a student's behaviors consistently become a disruption to the class, and this point system is insufficient to encourage a change of behavior, additional steps will be taken, which may include:
-
parental contact
-
separation from groups or the class
-
after school detention
-
office referral
